Maybe she won’t notice my voice on the toy, it doesn’t come up that often. But to verify and give another clue, I have an idea to help. If I have a sword crafted out of pewter, silver or platinum with my family’s crest in it, it will be perfect.

I’ve heard about the new jewelry/broom shop in Diagon Alley. I have no use for brooms except as emergency transportation, but talking to the operator of the jewelry shop might be profitable.

Looking at the window, there was a drawing of a simple plated necklace with the words intertwined: Travetti's Special Jewels- For Your Special Jewel In Life. I walk into the shop and I hear a bell ring.

I look around the shop, it has soft color tones for the walls and rug, glass cases rounding the room and a round glass case in the center of the room, where a few witches at the moment are clustered around. I step closer inside and soon a witch with dark blonde hair and hazel eyes walks up to me.

"Hello, sir. My name is Callie. Is there anything you need help looking for?"

"Hi Callie, I'm Ernie MacMillan, I would like to talk with someone about a custom piece please."

"Well let me bring you to Nina Poliakoff, she's the one that takes down custom orders." She encourages me to follow her, and she leads me behind one of the counters and opens a door. "Nina, there's a Mr MacMilan here who would like to talk to you about a custom piece. Are you busy?"

"I'm not busy enough for a customer Callie," I hear, her voice soft with a thick accent I cannot quite place. "Let him in."

Callie steps to the side to let me in. "Mr MacMilian this is Nina Poliakoff, she'll be able to help you."

I notice the room I walk into is her workshop, tools, drawings, with gems in thier containers are neatly organized.

She stands and introduce myself, "Hello Miss Polaiakoff, I'm Ernie MacMillan." She offers me a seat and I pull out the badger toy out of my bag and place it on the worktable.

"Miss Poliakoff, I crafted this badger toy for the lady I'm courting." I say. I tap the toy with my wand and say, "What is your purpose?" The toy says in a gruff old scot warrior's voice, "I"m a Mage-Knight Errant here to guard the lady fair."

"As you can see he has a wand in his belt sheath, but he needs a sword to wield as well. I chose the badger because we are both Hufflepuffs but I couldn't find a proper sword anywhere. I came to you to craft a beautiful work of art in a claymore shape." I hand her a button, "With this crest somewhere on the sword if at all possible. The symbol is my family crest."
  • I listen quietly to Mr MacMilan's request. At first I was a bit thrown at the whole courting gesture. But listening to him speak, I was quite charmed. Whoever this witch is he is courting, appears to be lucky. The last time I heard anyone say they were courting someone was when my grandparents spoke about how they got together. I look at the badger and the crest.

I look at badger again and taken in the size of the toy and an idea about the sword comes into mind. It's not something I normally do. This type of work will be a lot more detailed than my usual designs. I pick up the badger and eye the back of it. "So you're looking for a miniature sword, perhaps with a strap attached to it so it can be strapped to his back?"

"In the days of yore, there would be a figure eight strap around the shoulders with a scabbard that hangs down the center of the back. But yes you are correct in everything else. What metal would be the best in your opinion? Gold, silver, pewter, platinum?" He asks.

I blink a couple times. I'll have to look up pictures of scabbards in order to form my own design for this. But as to the sword, ideas start to come to mind. I start to imagine the miniature sword in gold then toss that idea out. Then in pewter, but that would not work either. Silver... silver or platinum. The platinum I have would be more costly to Mr MacMilan. Perhaps a mix of both, they are similar, just one has more properties.

I hear a slight cough and I come back to where I am. I feel myself flush and set the badger down. "Sorry, ideas starting running through my head. Um.. how about a combination of the silver and platinum? Gold would seem too flashy, and the pewter isn't enough, and platinum indicates excess, but combined with the sterling silver, it will work fine, especially for a small piece."

"Excellent," he says, "When can you have a basic design done?"

About two or three designs start to form in my head. "Well what I will need to do is draw out some designs, I have about three forming in my head now. If you like, I can owl you the sketched designs and you can send me back which one you would prefer. It would only take me a day or so to sketch them out and to send them to you. Tell me.. you said she was in Hufflepuff, so you two went to Hogwarts? Would you like the gems to be in her former house's colours?"

    "That would be wonderful."

    "What were the colours?"

"Jade or ebony for the black do you think?" He asks. "Then I have no idea for a gem for the yellow color. "

  • Send me an owl at Schloss MacMillan when ever you have them done. I'm looking forward to seeing them." I say with a grin.

The lass nods and hands me back to the badger. "For yellow, the gemstone would be citrine. As for the black- that would be onyx, as jade is a dark green really. But I'll sketch out a few designs and once you choose one, I'll be able to move forward with creating it---"

She's interuppted by a door opening and someone else starting to come in, but he stops as he sees the both of us.

"Ah, you're busy. We can talk later."

"Anything important Nicolas?" She asks, pushing back a stray lock of hair.

"No. It can be said later," He says shortly, nods to me and then backs up and closes the door.

The lass turns back to me. "So, I'll send you an Owl in the next day or so. Ernie MacMilan right?"

    "Correct."

"You can also reach me at St. Mungo's most days. Thank you again, Miss Poliakoff," I say.

I catch a quick blanch at the mention of St Mungos but her expression quickly clears. "You're welcome Mr MacMilan."

Now if I can just find the Bones Family Crest that would complete the toy, but it isn't neccesary.
